Ah, I sort of expected you to say this. If the differential is as nonideal as you are suggesting, how do you account for its apparent ability to split torque darn near equally in normal, straight forward driving? If the differential had the tendency to favor one side over the other, it would show up as a pull to one side and be the source of a multitude of owners' complaints. Further, if differentials generally exhibited this nonideal behavior, you'd certainly see similar effects (say, the tendency to spin one wheel before the other) with RWD cars.

Thanks for the additional insight. I find this subject fascinating, and still think that there's some other second- or third-order effect going on here that we have yet to figure out.
