WOW! Today was the Grand Canyon of PA Drive, the 1 Lap of Connecticut Dry Run, NJ Autocross and Dinan Day at Daniels- and probably more. I went to Dinan Day. I learned so much, I know I will forget something good. I rode out 78 with a couple of the Warlock bikers, found that my seat had jammed. Oh well, I was on the way to Daniels anyway, it was a good time to break. Again. Arrival at Daniels was great. Food and drink a plenty, a good showing of Z3ers plus a couple in a Sienna Red ’00 2.3 who didn’t know about our group... John Moran gave them a (RichC) bimmer.org card. ( I have to print up some more.) They’re already interested in packing tips and a LeatherZ armrest.
Didja know Steve Dinan drives a 98 Imola Red MZ3? Also an M5, so there will be plenty of Dinan goodies for those cars. Didja know there IS Dinan CAI for the 1.9? Turns out that was a typo on their website!!! He explained that the reason there is not more Dinan stuff for 1.9s is that they believe that people who buy the smaller engines don’t want the car to go faster or leap small buildings in a single bound. They were disappointed that there wasn’t interest from the 1.9 folks. I nearly plotzed. He hadn’t heard about any of the work folks had been doing here, as he doesn’t do the web thing. He’s too busy using computers for engineering- which is OK by me. They had seen the report from Fixit Day and how Mark Volk couldn’t buy a CAI for his 1.9 and that is probably when they realized the typo. I promised to put them in touch with some of our 1.9 folks. (1.9 folks interested in upgrades, please email me with "1.9" in the subject line) Yes, there are making Dinan Valve Covers and yes they will earn "points" toward a Dinan badge. (Yee haaa.) They didn’t know about the hood liners melting on 2.8 Valve Covers.
Daniels has a lot of good goodies, and even a bunch of the sought after 007 version Z8 models- but they didn’t have a kit for Stage 2 Suspension Upgrade, which I think I am going to get after hearing Steve Dinan’s talk. It was all about suspensions. Daniels fixed my seat, which had suddenly jammed this morning and their paint folks touched up Emmy’s chips and offered to do the big scrape on her front spoiler (I did that) and gouges in her rear bumper (troll at Nazareth) with a lighter form of body work using a sprayer if I come back on a Monday. Hmmmm.
Steve Dinan explained that the usual process if hydrolock occurs is to report it to your insurance company, just as if you hit a curb, neither BMW nor Dinan covers it. However, in his opinion it doesn’t happen a lot and it actually happens more often to stock set ups than to Dinan Cold Air Intakes.
I was really happy to see some of the same vendors together that had come to Fixit Day (Paintless Dent Repair, Paint touch up, Checkered Flag Detailing [Zaino] ) seems they really admired each other’s work and felt that they could do even more together. For me it was a little like old home week. The techs even seemed to be enjoying themselves. We all agreed to do Fixit Day again December 2 (inclement weather date, December 9) We will collect toys for children again.
The folks from Dinan wanted to pass their warm regards to the Lesters, and to Global Imports and were very happy (and surprised) to hear that yes, there is going to be a Homecoming Y2K and that yes, Amy Lester is going to be involved. :)
Phil Butera drove up from Washington D.C. just to have his oil changed. JonT showed up pretty much after it was all over, since he’d been out at Auto X all day. We headed out looking for trees and shade and the river and found all of it.

It was 3pm and awesome beauty everywhere, the cars were roaring around showing us a good time. I was hungry and a lovely little country inn made itself known, I half hate to tell you where it is, but it’s so lovely and the people were so very nice I can’t withhold it.

I bought some wonderful fruit.
As we were leaving, we ran into some more Z3 people who had never heard of the group and again got caught up in conversation, neither of us had bimmer.org business cards, so there was JonT writing out all kinds of urls, (NE mailing list, LeatherZ armrests, and then they asked about car care but we had to get a move on if we were going to get to "Chicken Run" on time. Here is a balloon we saw, I wasn’t taking many pics but...

So there we were tooling down 78 dodging the police, when I noticed that I was on reserve tank (294 miles on the odometer- ruh roh), my airbag light had come on again, and I had only one green light left- and hadn’t done the maintenance while I was at Daniels all day! JonT found us a gas station fast- I had *one* gallon of gas left in the tank according to the pump. Gleep.
The movie was fun, and on the way back through the Holland Tunnel I saw an Atlanta Blue Z3 with Florida plates, I yelled "Z3!" he yelled back "YEAH GIRL!" On the street I saw parked a Z3, we were EVERYWHERE it was a Z3 invasion! One helluva way to start the summer.

Hey y’all I hope you got out there today and drove!

(I got some great Z3 Men to start the Z3 Men page, and 3 new Z3 girls to add, and some garages. I will work on them soon, so if you are going to add something, please send it ASAP!)
