: I bought (from my dealer), and installed the new (single 6.5 driver) sub. It IS a "drop-in" replacement for the old one (I had the snorkel beast). Initially, I tried it without upgrading the amp...just plugged & bolted it in. It didn't rattle...but it didn't make much sound either (I guess that's why the new configuration has a second amp!). My old one was terrible, so I was just happy not to hear the distortion, but no real additional bass was heard.
: This was no problem, b/c the next step was to replace the factory sub with a Zapco AG650 AMP (I also did the Boston Pro6.5's, a new Eclipse head unit and 8 disc changer).
: The Sub now is VERY nice with some nice power to it. It does distort at moderate levels, however I am quite satisfied. I do plan on further replacing the 6.5 driver in the new factory enclosure as soon as the new JL 6.5 inch sub is released this fall. This JL Sub should be a further improvement able to handle more power.
: I plan on writing it all up for MZ3.net soon. I have a load of pictures...here is the amp + changer. BTW, this amp is GREAT! It looks like it is MADE for this car...mounted on the top ceiling of the trunk in the back...it only takes 2 inches away from back 6 inches of the trunk ceiling!! Nothing on the floor. More details soon...
< amps I've ever seen! Glad to hear the sub fits, and I'd be interested in hearing more about the JL Audio mid/sub when its available - I've been thinking about perhaps using an Infinity 6.5" driver in there.
