My wife has a '99.5 GTi GLX VR6 which now has 19k miles on it and apart from a sticking passenger seat it is very reliable. The seat is now fixed.

Oh the suspension is too soft, the tires are Michelin Touring(!) and lastly the gear change is awkward. The first two can be fixed the last I don't know?
