I was in that area in June, and several of the roads in the area are worth drivng, including NC 143 on either side of US 129. NC 28 along the Fontana Lake is allright as well, although not as twisty.

If you have plenty of time, you should take US 321 from Pigeon Forge through Townsend to the Foothills Parkway on the the Dragon. Us 321 would be fun if traffic is light.

US 64 East from Highlands to Brevard, then US 276 to Greer is also a good run.

Lots of choices.
