I had the ECU sent to and returned from Dinan week before last. Just in time for me to spend a week in Hotlanta on business. Having been away all last week, I was really looking forward to getting back to try the new software.
The first thing I noticed is that the rocket-launch blast of torque at 3500 to 4000 RPM is gone. In its place is much more lower end torque, and an even torque line all the way through the RPM range. Much smoother acceleration and quicker off the line.
Although I can't really tell until I drive it in the commuter conditions its used to, another side benefit seems to be greater fuel efficiency (probably because of better use of the CAI).
For anyone who has a Z3 older than 8/98 with Dinan software and a CAI, and does not already have the stage 2 software, you definately want to get the (sorta free) upgrade.
Brecht BMW wanted about $100 to apply the free upgrade. I ended up shipping it to Dinan who applied the upgrade and reshipped the ECU the same day they received it for the cost of shipping both ways.

How do you find out if there is a Dinan upgrade? I had Dinan software installed on my 1998 328 about 2 years ago and am wondering if an upgrade is avail.
Thanks
