BMW's radio/cd controller is a proprietary system. It is not designed to let you add on non-BMW aftermarket items. Of course, the market being what it is, adapters show up to do just that. However, in the past, folks here have had problems doing that...and I think you may be experiencing the same type of thing. BMW really hopes you will spend the $900 (or whatever the amount is) on their cd/changer.
Because I did not want that problem, I just pulled the OEM BMW radio, and put in a Pioneer am/fm/cassette/cd controller, and Pioneer 12-CD changer. If your problems continue, you may want to consider replacing your stereo head unit with a much better one...for far less money. In fact, if you were inclined, you could sell your BMW business radio (that means you have in dash CD) for enough to pay for the new head unit, and the installation/modification to make your changer work right. Just a thought.
