I have the exact same setup that you have and mine does the same thing. I usually, but not always, have to press the SCAN button to sort of 'wake up' the changer. That works every time but sometimes takes a few seconds. I e-mailed the tech support at the place that makes the adapter and they thought that the problem was fixed with the BMWPILA (used to be BMWPIL) adapter. Obviously they are mistaken.

Also, watch out for cases where the changer seems to keep playing (although you can't here it) after you shut off the car! A few of us have seen that effect too. I always switch back to FM, then turn off the head unit, then turn off the car. This seems to prevent the problem.

You will find that random play and scan probably don't work.

Hope this helps,
Steve

I just installed a Pioneer CDX-P650 6 disc changer (with the BMWPHILA 0190 Adapter) that I purchased from AutoToys.
It basiclly works fine. Except I have difficulty getting the CD chnager to start playing a CD.

When I turn the radio on (standard Business Radio), The display will show something like - 5-02 (disc 5 track 2). But I have a hard time getting the player to start. I can always get it going, but it takes a lot of fiddling with various buttons. I've been doing a lot of experimenting and there doesn't seem to be a consistant way to get the changer to run. Sometimes if I press the "next track" button 2 or 3 times, it will start. Sometimes I have to press the "CD" button to swith to the integrated CD-player, and the press it again to go back to the changer, and then press the "next track" button.
Once the changer finally starts, it behaves fine.

Anybody else have a problem like this? Or am I missing something?
