OT: Amphicar ramblings (archive)

OK, I had a chat with my friend who was involved with the deal with Amphicar, he is a character to say the least.

He says that Quandt family owned (or owns) much of everything in Germany including Mercedes Benz and a deal was on the table with Chrysler to buy the Amphicar. The head of Chrysler, (GM?) was sacked 2 days before the deal would have gone through.

Meanwhile the Quandt in question was a general or something, and was killed in an aviation accident- something to do with a Caravelle. His mother was Goebbel's wife.

I know this doesn't make much sense, my friend is ill and I have no backround in this- but I tell you, most of what he says is true.
