I recently looked into this issue. A guy I have dealt with for years, and who ships a lot of cars in his line of work, recommended "A All America Auto Transport" 1-800-942-0001. They're in your yellow pages under Automobile Transport. He's had cars shipped from CA to MA for under $400 (I got the impression that this was a memorably good rate). It is usually more expensive than that.

I just sold my '67 Volvo to a guy in CT. He arranged shipment (NOT with AAAA) from Waco, TX (99 miles North of Austin) to Bridgeport, and ended up being charged $900 and change. I think this was a bit high. They transport the cars on one of those 18 wheeler car carriers that you see on the highway every day. I think your Z should be o.k. on an open air carrier like this--after all, it's been on one before.

Also, remember that they are completely responsible for the condition of your car. When my Volvo was picked up, the driver and I filled out a fairly detailed inspection form regarding the car's condition. ANY damage resulting from the transport is covered by their insurance.
