I have a 2000 Z3 and the string on the driver's side broke and the dealer I bought it from sort of fixed it. I moved back to Cleveland, OH and the passenger side broke. The dealership here ordered some parts and properly fixed both sides. So far so good. Your dealership should fix it under warranty.
