I got rid of my 12" sub a while ago. Didn't like not having the trunk space. However, I missed the bass vibrations from the sub. So I talked to a friend who has a car stereo shop. He suggested to try a pair of Aura Bass Shakers (car audiophiles are probably shaking their heads when reading about the Shakers) The Bass Shaker is a small round encapsuled speaker-motor withut the membrane. It's made to vibrate and give the feeling of bass at around 40hz. It only need a maximum of 25W RMS/ Shaker. It installs to the floorboard or other solid surface in a car. The closer to a seat, the better. I installed them under the seats. Had to cut a hole in the carpet and insulation and drill four screw holes in the floor for each one. (still have to put gunk on the stainless screws, to make sure I don't get any leaks...) I disconnected the battery, removed the chairs, the complete rear console, the center console and rear carpet to do this. Took half the day to do. However when sitting in the car, the stereo sounds and feels great. I use SONY ES 5 1/4 component speakers (with foam baffles) in kickpanels(tweeter in door) and behind seats. I use an amplifier (SONY ES XM-5046)cut off at 80hz, to drive the component speakers. I use an old and tiny SONY XM2020 (2x20W, 2x35Wmax) amp I have had for almost ten years (collecting dust) with the Bass Shakers. Only problem with installation is the Shakers are being scraped by the seat, when seat is moved back in lowest postion. It doesn't make a difference in sound, just looks bad. Going to try to remove a rubber foam piece from base of Shaker and see if it takes care of problem. If anyone is interested in pics I can post them on Photopoint tomorrow afternoon.
