Yes, we know. It's been around awhile. I have no idea if this makes the 2.8 or M more competitive, but as I own a 1.9, it doesn't change anything for me. I'm just trying to decide if my 91 318is is now competitive that it no longer has to race against the neons (current DS). However, I'm going to guess that it isn't.

Last I heard, they are considering this for 2002, not 2001. They need to do something, there are too many good sports cars that aren't worth squat under the current rules, and they keep having to put stock cars into street prepared, where they are not competitive unless you put in 10K of mods and make it undrivable on the street (ie, so rough riding it makes you sick).

The Honda S2000 guys that dominated AS this year are going to be very unhappy. The Porsche 968 will probably go back to dominating Class 3 (was AS), I don't know if the Viper can handle the Rx-7 in Class 1, and I'd have to tap the Boxer S in Class 2 as the favorite. Still, this has to be better then the old method of having only two top classes (SS and AS), even if the HS guys are not going to be happy in Class 9, as they have to absorb many new cars (although I think they took the ES leaders away, at least).

As usual, some win and some loose. That is what it's like when you run in classes. Don't like it? Run SP or P and modify your car. An M3 dominated ESP this year (where it will probably be moved for next year), so admittedly, this doesn't help much, but at least you can spend more money and get a faster car. TC Kline got his Z3 to a trophy in ASP (the fastest Street Prepared class) this year, so it can be done.
