About your tech questions:
It needs some maintenance work (brakes, a new rear window, there's a leak in the front engine seal), but the one big-ticket item I need to take care of right away is tires.
I'd go with FredR's advice on the tires but before you get a new rear window, call Meguiers and get their solution for cleaning up the rear window. I thought mine would have to be replaced but their stuff got (almost) all the scratches out.
I wanted to ask about a couple of other small things as well. I've noticed that the driver's seat tends to rock a lot, even under pretty moderate forces like a small weight shift or just pushing a bit hard on the steering wheel, let alone under vigorous driving. Is this common? Is there a fix for it? It is a bit annoying.
The seat rock is one of those 'standard' problems. While under warranty, they will replace the seat rails which causes the problem. I've also heard of other things you can do to stop the problem but can't remember them now. Check the archives on the board here.
Also annoying is a passenger-side dash rattle (glovebox? ventilation ducts?) -- always evident at idle and shows up at speed when the suspension is active.
Thats probably the gloge box rattle. Another 'standard' problem. Get someone to watch the glove box door while you drive over some bumps to see it thats the problem.
If you don't want to drive, come visit us at the autocross next Sunday. Great bunch of people there.
