We had a genuine "real good time".
Trip notes:
Rachel commented on the lack of chatter on the Talkabouts. No mystery - the drivers were too busy driving, and the passengers were too busy hanging on.

(Be sure to read Rachel's disclaimers before driving with her!)

What do you do when you cross a one lane bridge, and on the other side of the bridge is a one lane road with No Outlet and Private Road signs?

Why, you press on of course! As fate would have it, one of the two people that live on the road came along in the opposite direction. The lady didn't seem anxious to back up and give way on

HER road, but Rachel explained the logic of the situation. "Well, as long as you don't mind the wait, you can hang out while we back up 8 cars all the way down the road

and across the bridge - or, um, YOU can back up."

Now really, what I told her was that I was really sorry and we didn’t realize until we were over the bridge that we weren’t supposed to be there, and all I needed to know was if it was smarter to continue forward and turn around, or if we should all back up.

When she stared down the line... she backed up.

Then there was that lovely uphill climb of big rocks over train tracks. Mmmmmm. Oops.

We all waved our thanks to her as we passed. Reaching the little turn-around at the end of the road, we gloated over Rachel's command of the situation. That's when the gunshots began.

Uh huh, yeah, right, gunshots. Like a shot gun, more like many shotguns... and they did seem to be getting closer... We were sure glad for that bright yellow car... LET’S GET ROB AND PUT HIM IN FRONT!

Don’t forget the gnats. I think I still have some in my car.

Did we miss the sign that said "No Trespassing - Survivors Will Be Prosecuted"? The shooting sounded awfully close, and none of the cars were blaze orange so we beat it back to the bridge.

Well I sure missed ‘em! ... besides we could only get 7 cars on the bridge at the time... and I went over to video tape it and uhm...

The Bridge restaurant had a great view of Roebling's bridge from the deck, and the best food to be had anywhere in sight of the bridge.

TomY gives a small speech on the history of John Roebling Bridge, and why the Park Rangers all wear guns.

Yes, I did get the video both times and will post when the rest of y’all give up some more pics... and video... please....

I hope to never again need a knife and fork to eat a burger.

Jeez Rob, did you take enough pictures of signs? Meanwhile, this is another sign I did not see... I wonder if that is a pattern developing...

I'm too young to be of the Woodstock generation (well, by a little bit anyway) but it was pretty cool to be there all the same. There were a few houses on the road, and

while they certainly weren't there in '69, we closed our eyes and imagined what it might have been like to be living there during the fabled concert:
Ding-dong! "Can I use your bathroom man?"

Ding-dong! "Can I use your bathroom man?"

Ding-dong! "Can I use your bathroom man?"

There's a little hippie in all of us, if you're ever in the area check it out.
Ja and there’s a Z3er in everyone too... remember the group of bicyclists we met up with? About 20 all in yellow shirts, and the leader was pulling his little girl in a sort of bicycle-rickshaw... He comes up to me and says, "My wife drives an Alpha, can we come with you?" Hell yes buddy...

Having the Boxter with us was fun - and I only made one Porsche joke. We had the slot behind the Boxter for much of the trip and it plays a very sweet song! I complimented Bob on the exhaust note over the radio and I could swear from that point on he was doing a bit more revving than he needed to!
It’s "Boxster" ;p.... Absolutely- it was GREAT having Bob and Kathy with us! And it wasn’t just his exhaust- it was also his frikin STEREO. Jeez!

Thanks to Rachel, and all the good folks who came!

This was one of the slickest groups I have had the pleasure to lead. When all 8 cars lie in wait on the side of the road, to pounce on it with gusto... again and again... awesome.
