Purchased a new hardtop for my 98 Z3 from the BMW dealer here in the S.E.U.S. Hardtop arrived and left the car at the dealer for the half day needed to install rear latches and wiring for the heated rear window. TWO days later--got the car back with the hard top in place. Hard top rattles and leaks and rear window defroster does not work.

Rather than spending another 2 days with the car in the dealership,I explored the rear latches-- where the rattles and leaks were....got the wrenches out and gingerly tightened both sides equally....rattle went away, car was quiter... now only a few drops come in between the back apron of the hardtop and the coaming of the cockpit...(at one of the high pressure hand wand suck and squirt car washes)--I'm reluctant to tighten any more without asking first--- is there any sort of procedure for setting the rear latches?? There must be a specification for when tight enough is tight enough. The rear latches have LOTS of room for adjustment but I dont want to overdo it and bend or break anything......

All of you here have and are teaching me more about the Z3 than anyone here in Birmingham seems to be able to-- thanks to one and all for the diversity of subjects and info
