I am telling you this from my motorcycle experience. My bike is aircooled, this means that the oil is put under a great deal of stress because the operating tempatures vary more than in a water colled engine. Also, the engine only has a primitive "slinger" type filtration system with no external paper cartridge. The net/net is you have to change the oil every 500 miles if you really care about your bike.

Now, I've used regular 10W-30 and Mobil 1 10W-30.
The Mobil One Synthetic is noticeably cleaner and clearer after 500 miles than the standard oil which usually comes out of the sump as a black ooze. The engine also sounds smoother and quieter when running with the synthetic

To me this is evidence that the synthetic holds up much better and therefore probably offers better engine protection than the standard oil.

As for Slick 50, etc, ...OK I didn't really answer your question, but this is still on the general topic of lubrication and I thought you'd like to know.
