Couple of problems with that mod though..

First, your entire shifting position changes. Everything moves to the right and up a little. This is because the 1.9+2.3l shift rods are bent. The MZ3 (and 2.8l) rods are straight.

Second, you will most likely have interference problems shifting into fifth gear if you push the shifter over to far. The selector rod will hit the driveshaft in that case. I had this mod (as well as several other shifters) in my car awhile ago.

Ron's shifters are bent to duplicate the factory neutral position and aren't as low below the pivot so there is no interference problem.

Ben's original short shift directions do work for a 2.8l though with neither of the problems mentioned above.
