Does anyone know how to disable the passenger airbag on a 1997 Z3 1.9L. Better still, is it possible to install a disable/enable toggle switch. My kids (9 & 12) love to ride in our, I mean, THEIR Z3. They ride, one at a time, with the seat elevated and retracted as far as possible, but I worry that the airbag is more dangerous for them than the benefit that it provides. They are part of the generation that believes the car won't start if they don't buckle their seatbelts, so that precaution is not an issue.

I don't think that I am the first with this problem, and wonder what solutions others have found for the child versus airbag problem. Oh well, I guess it will be a mute point in a few years, when they insist that I take the passenger seat. Worse yet, they'll probably recommend that I stay at home while they run the errands.

Thanks,

John

John, in the state of Maine it is leagle to disable the air bag If the state approves a letter from you, indicating why you needed to disabble It ... Now here is where the politics come In....You can't get a shop, dealership, etc. to remove it for you, because they become liable in the case of an accident !!! I have grandchildren that I'd love to transport in my Z but, I won't due to the airbag !!!! This is going to remain to be a problem for a while knowing how the government drags it feet !!!!
