hear it may (hopefully) be covered under extended warranty. What year is your car?



I haven't posted anything because it's been difficult to talk about. The dealership (Basney BMW in South Bend, IN)said that the head gasket is blown and the head may be cracked. At least a week to repair. They don't know yet why the car overheated but it will likely be covered by my extended warranty. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! I had to borrow a car to go back to Maryland and will drive back to Indiana to pick up the Z when it's done.



It's a 96' 1.9. I bought it as a certified pre-owned BMW a little over a year ago. It was originally bought with an extended warranty that carried over to me. Good thing because I have used it about 5 times now! I just talked to the mechanic and he confirmed that it has a cracked cylinder head. The most likeky cause was a stuck thermostat but there doesn't seem to be any way of knowing for sure what did it. The warranty covers the major damage minus $50 deductable and I have to pay for a new thermostat and a new drive belt (they said it needed changing).Altogether, about $300. Not so bad, considering the repairs needed. Did you know that BMW will reimburse some of the expenses occured from a long-distance beakdown of warrantied parts? I talked to a customer service rep and was told to keep my receipts of gas, meals, etc...and send to them with an explaination.I'll post the results if and when I get a reimbursement. -Thanks for the concern. None of my friends understand the deep level of pain associated with a broken-down Z!
