I think they are all the same. I recently bought a 1997 1.9L Z3 that was first sold in New Hampshire, and it has the California emissions sticker. My bet is that BMW makes one model that meets emissions for all 50 states.

I'm in the market for a 98 or 99 2.8 (or 99/00 2.3). Autotrader lists quite a few cars in California. Are these cars different (smog control-wise or anything else) than cars that have been originally shipped to other states? If so, how are they different?
