on the windshield. I have had mine as LOW as possible just clearing the dash by a half inch, for the last three years. The sensitivity on the V1 is outstanding, there is no need to mount it any higher trying to extend the range. Just level it with the slide on top so that it is level looking straight ahead. After a while the suction cups tend to lose their grip. Do not lick them, as this ruins them. The cause is often a film on the windshield on the inside due to "off gassing" of the dashboard.

Also when you "hard-wire" the unit, you can run the wire along the bottom edge of the dash where it meets the windshield and only leave about a foot long "tailer" out, for easy disconnect. With the plug being the standard telephone jack, the "tailer" looks like a cell phone hookup.

I would suggest you ALWAYS remove the unit from the dash and lock it in the glovebox or take it with you. The one time you leave it in place to "just run in" somewhere for a couple minutes is when someone will slice your top and grab it in less than twenty seconds, don't risk it!!

You will be very pleased with the unit, it has saved me countless times over the last three years. Good Luck! (:
