A files later I see the speed limit drop to 50, I slow down, but it's only me slowing down. Everyone is passing me. Just as I pick up a little speed, another NJ state trooper appears in my rear view mirror, and he passes me too. By the time I get up to the speed that everyone else is going, it's 75. Still construction, still posted at 50. Go figure.
There are a lot of State Troopers out, but none of them seem to notice me. Musta used that special "invisibility" force field. OK I arrive at the dealership really late, they send me off directly to the place that does the emissions test, and since I am late, they advise me to do t he inspection there. First I unpack all the things I have with me to install on my car, particularly the "pro clip" I read about on Rocinate's page. (It's also on Emmy's Essentials) It's fabulous. I have instant hands free phoning because I have a power cord for this old analog phone that has a speaker on it. This is a cool thing, it just clips on to the console, no drilling. There is an adhesive provided, but I didn't even bother.
On my way out, I run into the paintless dent fellow from the last Fixit day. I tell him, "Take a look at my car, if you can find a dent, you can fix it." He finds one, from someone opening a door onto Emmy's passenger side, and takes it out. Off to the tire place for inspection. Nice place, Gemini/Goodrich. My tires from Tire Rack are waiting at the dealership to be mounted, but I am at a tire place getting an inspection. OK.
They are checking out the Run Flats for my car (apprently only for 17" wheels), and noting how I need new tires. Doh! I am getting them as soon as I leave, and it's taking a loooong time. They guy who inspected my car comes out and says, "I enjoyed inspecting your car." Yep, I can understand that.
Back to the dealer's but now it's too late to have the tires mounted. We get the brilliant idea to go back to the tire place. Dealer loads my tires in their truck and drives them over to the tire place- but I have to drive the dealer's parts dept crazy first with some nice little teent weeny nebulous bits and pieces. I need the gas tank door bumper part number, (51-17-8-153-364, Harvster, there ya go... none in stock at my dealer's), the part number for the extenders for the 2 clip version of the mesh windscreen (didn't find part numbers but managed to score a set- KathyM, check email ) also needed part number for the side of the v clip that goes to the windscreen ( I already have the part number for the v clips, 82-19-9-410-826, I ordered a spare set of four and picked them up)- didn't find it, and part numbers for blanks I want for JonM to leatheriize and to get for UNGO install (got diagrams of entire console and dash with part numbers).
Trim caps for UNGO install were in stock I think.(51-16-8-398-920)
Ok so back to the tire place, they mount my new Michelin (Artic Alpins?) winter tires. [email protected] helped me figure out what I wanted. He said the new Blizzaks are THE thing for snow, but since I am going to be using these tires November to March, and only in snow if I get stuck somehow, I opted for the Michelins, a better all- around tire. The folks and Gemini said the Blizzaks wear out fast too, but if I was going wintersporting, I would get the Blizzaks. It would be fun to have a Z3 that could be a snow cat.
I met up with JonT for a movie (Best In Show- wierd movie) and we tried to find the "black cap siren plug under the fuse box" from Harvster's UNGO instructions and absolutely have no clue what he is talking about. Have to try again Sunday- Mick if you are reading this we wannago to Lisa's for a washathon, you are invited- now I have to tell Lisa, and I think we will have to wash her 2.3... grin
Then my drive home... good golly I love the hell out of this car. The winter tires feel good on the road, a bit grippy, but that is exactly what I want from a winter tire.
Oh yeah, more and more NJ state troopers, none with their radars on, passin by me like I was not even there...
