i was looking more new tires and came across someone selling their bridgestone re-71 tires for cheap. anyone have these or know anything about them?? thanks in advance.

I currently have a '91 Toyota MR-2 (Mk. 2). the original equipment tires were Bridgestone Potenza RE-71 (195 series up front and 205 in back). They are Unidiredtional (i.e. you can't rotate left and right tires with each other)and sticky as all get out.

I had TONS O'FUN with them on for the whole 12,000 miles I had them on my car. I should have changed them out at about 9,000 in retrospect as I discovered I was showing ply through on the inside of the rear wheels (typical for the MR-2 to wear more there) when I was changing my oil.

Get the mileage on them. I wouldn't mess with them unless it was REAL LOW (no more than 2,000 mi.)since you probably won't own them for that long anyway. Check the tread, look for bubbles and blisters and make sure the sidewalls are in good shape.
