layer and lighting effects. The stainless steel was created in an other file by addin noise to a white background, applying a motion blur with a lengt of 150 pixels at an angle of 45 degrees, then desaturated. that was then pasted into a selection that was in the shape of the roundel which I created and imported from illustrator as a selection channel. by duplicating this same selection channel twice and offseting it 5 pixel up and to the left and down and to the right, you can then render lighting to only that particular area of the roundel. Also, depending on how much you blur the selection channel will depend on how soft the bevel is. with no blur, it would be very sharp. There are tons of trics like this in the "photoshop WOW book". Also, I've been playing with photoshop for a long, long time. Ever since the beta version of the orgiginal one came out...
