To be fair, it also protects them against "knuckleheads" who botch installations & damage stuff. Not me or you, no never, for sure, of course. But OTHER people...
Wish however that BMW would adopt an open systems approach and leave the stuff they dont do well (which is not core) to others. Their "latest" cell phone for example is based on a Motorola startac, now more than three models old. So evidently the only people to go for BMW's negative electronic value proposition would be those terrified by hype like this!! Or here's an idea for the marketing folks. Build an all singing all dancing exclusive BMW hands free system that would adapt to ANY phone - could be suitably hidden, secure, link to nav system and controls on steering wheel etcetc. You would have the best of both worlds - being able to charge through the nose AND have a comm system that is on a par with the car's technology.
