The recent post about a leaking head on a new car is one of 3 such cases I've come across in recent weeks. Could BMW have a problem in the casting or assembly process that in some heads allows oil to seap out (over the front exhaust manifold, over the a/c compressor)? I suspect the bad heads leave the factory bad (they don't develop the problem over time) but it takes some miles before the oil starts to leak so it is not obvious at the factory, but pretty soon thereafter. One case from the E46 board was an '00 2.8, the other 2 are Z3 3.0s, so it's M52TU and M54 engines. Check for oil on the exhaust manifold heat shield or in that area, dripping down eventually onto other parts.
