I drove the 2.3 & 2.8 in town & on highways a lot before ordering my Z over a year ago...I did not feel any significant difference in the 2.3 vs. 2.8 (several dealers came right out & said they could not justify the price difference, and 2.8's sat on many lots while all 2.3's were gone)...the 2.3 easily hits 100+mph and does everything I want it to....much fun, and a great car..good luck..I hope you get your Z!
I was wondering if somebody would provide an opinion on a Z3 the local BMW dealer has for sale.

2000 Z3 2.3, 5-speed, white, black top, tanin red leather seats w/ black dash, and wood trim package (sounds gaudy but actually quite tasteful).

Has Premium Package w/ power top etc, chrome package, in-dash CD player (but no 6-pack in trunk).

He threw in the floor mats w/ the following numbers:

$31,500 car
$2,362.50 tax
$194 doc
$567.76 license

Grand total out the door $34,624.26

He has only two 2000s left. The other is red, and my opinion is that red attracts too much attention, so no go.

Anyway, apparently BMW has $1500 incentives on the 2000 that are left on the lot, until the end of Oct.

Is this as good a deal as I think it is (i.e., not a steal but as good as I'm gonna get?).

Also, I have driven the 1.9, 2.8 and M but never have driven the 2.3(2.5 engine). I would have driven one of these tonight, but it was raining. Will I notice a significant difference between the 2.3 and 2.8?? Or only at top speeds?

Thanks for listening . . . and thanks for your opinions.
