Thanks to info I picked up on this MB, we rented an MR2Spyder from Specialty Car Rentals in SF last week. We drove it 1100 miles up the coast and through the wine country. Car was yellow with a yellow interior and received a lot of attention. A few quick observations: great turn in response on curves of Highway 1, better than my Z3 2.8. Power was barely adequate. Tight body, very little cowl shake. Transmission was a little vague, especially going into 3rd. Manual top was really hard to latch up to wind shield. Over-all a fun car to drive, but felt more of a toy than my Z3. Going back to my Z3 after a week of the MR2 I felt I was stepping into a "real" serious car again. Then again, for the price difference, it should feel that way. Thanks to the MB for the info on the car rental agency - we had a good time!
you had an MR Spyder for a week on a trip? Where did you put your luggage?
Good question, since we had packed expecting to rent a Miata, we only had a duffle bag (which fit in the compartment behind the seats) and a small carry-on (which fit behind the passenger's seat. We travel light.
