We're not talking about an individual threatening to sue on flimsy grounds and the insurance company choosing to stand and fight even if it costs them more than settling. It is easy to see their point in doing that, because it will save them money in the long run if ambulance-chasing lawyers know they will fight it. Kinda like not giving in to terrorists. But we're instead talking about the prospect of an insurance company suing a deadbeat individual whose negligence has caused them to pay out a small claim. Not sure what point they would be making if the guy has no money and therefore it is for all practical purposes uncollectible.
