I got my Z3 booklet from the dealer just yesterday and noticed that the new engine is described there as having "fewer" emissions. (Being an engineer dealing with air quality, this struck me as an interesting choice of words)

Emissions arising from combustion are pretty complex and are definitely not a case of what goes in = what comes out. NOx didn't go in. SO2 didn't go in. CO didn't go in. The building blocks are all there, but the combustion process itself has worlds to do with what comes out, and combustion can be managed to reduce emissions - particularly when you consider the engine as more than just what happens in the cylinder.

That said, I agree. Sulfur needs to go.
