I've got a 2000 Oxford Green 2.3 that came with factory installed hard top (that I promptly removed when to took delivery back in July). I put the hard top back on about two weeks ago and I haven't had any problems (read: leaks) while driving it in the rain. I even drove it thru one of those "touchless" car washes last weekend. I did notice some water drops then, but not where you implied; instead there were two or three drops on the back wall right above the folded soft top. (But remember that in a car wash you've got high pressure water shooting at you in six different directions.) I'm not going to do that again and I don't recommend that anyone else try it.

Even with the soft top up, I've never seen any leaks (even in Colorado's mild to not-so-mild thunderstorms).knock on wood

The only concern I would have is that since your z3 didn't come with the hard top installed at the factory, the guys at your BMW dealership will have to spend some time "fitting" it to your car. Or at least that's what my salesman told me when I ordered my z3 with the hard top back in June.

I just ordered a hardtop for my 00 2.3 oxford green. While at the dealer they had a new 3.0 with the hardtop as it was delivered from the factory. I was looking at the seal around the window, and to me, it doesn't look like a very robust design. Simply the glass window rubbing against the rubber seal. No seating at all. I am concerned that this will be prone to leaks due to this design.

Experience?
