NO, this would not work. The area is not a sealed enclosure, and it would also be very dependent on the driver.

The best thing you could do is to Dynamat, or apply another type of viscoelastic damping material behind the speakers. This will reduce sympathetic resonance, and "appear" to increase the bass (and other frequencies) response.

There are lots of variables that must be accounted for, and just stuffing polyfill is not a "cure-all".
