Radar Detector Success (so far) long (archive)

After monitoring radar detector discussions on this board for several months I finally bought the Escort 9200 9 Band detector. The decision to purchase this unit other than the high performing Valentine 1 was influenced by the fact that when I speed I do not exceed the speed limit by a large amount so I don't think I need long range detection. However that remains to be seen. And of course the saving of $300 helped my decision.

On it's first run this evening I did not hear a chirp on a 10 mile drive into the city except when I turned onto a road where a radar trap was active. Received a voice alert which identified the radar and the frequecy and then in 3 seconds muted to a low audio level. The trip into the city I used the City mode so I tried the Highway mode on the way home and only had one brief false alarm.

So far so good and much better than the results I had with the detector I bought 10 years ago. So many false alarms I gave it away. Saturday will be the real test when I drive from Fort Worth to College Station to see the Texas A&M/OU football game. The roads are crawling with radar traps.

Go Sooners.
