It seems that according to the US military, I am both a Korean Vet and a Viet Nam Vet, even tho I did not actually go to either place. I was in the Navy Reserve and went active duty in Jan. '55 and got out Jan. '57. As far as Bennies are concerned, the Korean "action" ended the last of Jan '55, and the Viet Nam started on Jan 1,'57
At least that's what I was told. The closes I ever got was when my carrier (CVA39) was pulled out of Cuba and sent at flank speed to the Med. at the start of a little conflict in November of '56, and I was verrrrryyyy scared.

When I was discharged and sitting in the local hamburger joint at home, in walked a close friend who was in the Army (instead of jail time) and had just gotten back from being an "Advisor" to the local military of a small country in Asia called, you guessed it, Viet Nam! This my friends was in March, 1957. This was also the first time I had even heard of the place.

Not a great story, but of some interest IMO.

A big THANK YOU to all of you who have served our country so well.
