that was the subject of the thread. Nobody's going to see BMWs advertised on daytime trashtalk shows aimed welfare moms, but IMO you may have a slightly inflated view of how "upscale" a Z3 really is. Let's face it, anybody with a steady job and credit rating slightly above deadbeat can lease one. It's an extraordinary car in the same price range with a lot of ordinary ones.

And that may be one reason BMW currently manages to sell all they build given current capacity shared with the X5. But they can and do advertise it (you and I must not read the same car and motorcycle rags) because they should if they want to maintain interest for the remainder of its lifespan (perhaps longer than rumored) with all these newer roadsters getting most of the free hype from the press.

As for HD I didn't mean they have an ad budget on a par with other "icons" like Coke or Nike, but they do advertise quite a bit in a preaching-to-the-choir sort of way. I still get tons of ads, brochures, promo invites, literature etc from them based on a bike I bought in '92 and haven't owned since '95. Even one of their coveted 700-page accessory catalogs! They also do quite a few big ads in many types of magazines --not promoting any particular model or trying to get you to buy one today, just honking their favorite line about the real thing vs. the imitators. They know they have a good thing but they can't be passive about keeping it that way.
