" Found a number of E36 references of course, but dated prior to the MZ3 coming out."
According to the info listed there the TIS CD has all the E36 service manuals and more on it. They are updated monthly with new service bulletins and such.
"Still, I did NOT find anything equivalent (even remotely) to the Bentley service manuals."
The Bentley manual is put out by a third party, not BMW. Can't blame BMW for that.
"but in such a convoluted and complex (and tedious) format as to be virually inaccessible, and prohibitively expensive if it can be found...then I am sure the letter of that law was met..."
I can't argue with the pricing as it is expensive. However, that may be more of a function of the company that sells the stuff then BMW. When it was sold through Kent-Moore everything was about 50% off. The law states the purchasing information for all this stuff be on the FedWorld FTP server, it is. The format is a little annoying but in it it gives you access to purchasing the exact same information and tools your local BMW dealership uses to work on these cars.
