This is not a flame, but I stand by my advice. Well, I guess I should have qualified my noah statement with, "depending on where you live, and park". In Socal, where you can actually "dust"off your car clean, and there are probably more car covers per square mile than any other state, it would make a lot more sense. I don't know where this kid lives, so I just gave my .02 based on my experiences. I've had nice cars, and tried to use car covers in CT, MA, MI, WV, VA, CO,& WY. It was a losing deal. If your car is a daily driver in those states, its damn tough to keep it scrupulously clean. I also don't have a garage, as wouldn't a typical college kid. You're right, on two clean cars, there is no appreciable time difference to putting on a Zcover vs a car cover. I'm in VA now (duh), and have NEVER seen a car in a parking lot with a car cover on. Ever. Unless the building next door is being spray painted. (Dont laugh, my new 944 had to be totally detailed because of that). A windy day will take any car cover I've seen, no matter how form fitting, and beat the crap out of the paint if it is dirty. Not so with the Zcover. I'm sure you've seen the Honda commercial, (I guess you want to take my car?..No, why would you say that?) There is a lot of truth to that. The average Z3 owner on this MB is far and away keeping a cleaner car than the average world Z3 owner. Even if there are 1000 regular contributers (NOT) there have been over 100,000 sold, so we are still the minority. Do a poll, how many regularly use a full cover on a daily driver vs a Zcover or tonneau. Ever have a car cover frozen to your car? I have. Its not something you will ever go through again, when you HAVE to get to work. But besides all these reasons, I based my advice, (and its just that, advice, don't like it don't use it, offer your own)on the type of "important" upgrades to this kid. He doesn't sound like the kind that is going to baby the car. He's more concerned with individualizing it to his age groups standard. How many college guys drive around with a car cover for regular use? Whereas some babe might think his primped up car is cool, she's gonna think he's some kind of case if everywhere they go, he's popping on a car cover. Unless he's in Socal, then she'll think he's NOT taking care of his car. Diffrnt strokes for diffrnt folks.
