Sorry about my first post but to answer to your primary question on how to check speaker if working is : Get any flashlight battery
1.5v then hold one wire to the neg of battery and brush the the other wire on the positive, if it makes a crcking sound then your speaker is working if not then get a boom box and connect your speaker there.
