Yours is a '96 or early '97 right? On cars produced 1/97+ it actually would be a little more difficult to make a cone filter intake for them. At least if their airbox lid is similiar to those on 1/97+ 318tis. On those cars there is an additional outlet on the lid for a hose running to the smog pump. That would need to be tapped into the connecting hose between the cone filter and the HFM. That smog pump tap, which would be right in front of the HFM, could cause turbulence which would screw up the metering by the HFM.

ECIS has been working on an intake for 1.9ls for awhile now. Sean@ECIS was asking me questions about the intake air sensor (and its positioning) last Spring.
