newbie: possible Z3 purchase (long) (archive)

I am a newbie visiting from the E39 board. I love my '00 sportpremium 528 (anthracite/grey) as a daily ride, but am considering a small roadster/conv. for the summer/family etc. I love the way the Z3 looks and drives. I also like the '3'conv. I want to buy something used and fairly low cost. Not interested in hp/M. Handling and fun. Something to work on as well. Perhaps some mods. Where do I start with reading? I probably won't buy until May or even September. Do the archives have a FAQ section? Where do I learn about the typical problems with the car? Thanks for your help. One specific question: do the Z3 and the '3' share suspension parts/frame parts/design?
