These series don't have the option of going to more cubic inches, the maximum displacement is limited by the rules. Usually when you see "open" classes, they use the biggest possible engines.

Displacement is not the only way to go, but it IS usually the cheapest.

Just remember, F1 and CART racing cars have LESS displacement than ///M Roadster and more than double the horsepower -- and F1 is normally aspirated.

IndyCar engines are approximately the same size, in terms of cc...but put out 900 hp.

Technology is a wonderful thing...and there are obviously other ways of generating HP besides just brute force cubic inches of pistons.
