The eta engines were developed with mileage as the main concern. They have very low redlines 4700 rpm and modest horsepower, 127. This engine requires considerabley more maintaince than later BMW engines as it has a cam belt that needs to be changed every 60k miles. You might address more specific questions on the e30 board as this was the model type for the car in question.
