"I find that my tires after a few autocrosses don't roll as smooth as before. Maybe they go out of round or get a flat spot."
Much of that can come from digging into the turns, spinning out, or braking past your turn.

When I started racing mid season last year, I was racing with my stock tires and wheels (approx 25K) and did fine. HOWEVER, for this racing season, I will be purchasing dedicated tires & wheels for my car.

SO the moral of the story is that you can race with your normal tires if you want too for a limited time. BUt if you do race every month/everyother week, get the tires/wheels. Your bank account will love you.
