Just curious as I have a February '96 but have never pursued what the first number was in the series...

Dave '96 1.9 Cosmos with 'starrynight' paint chip option

I was also curious, so I had the dealer submit the vin# to BMW who confirmed the production date and sequence of cars off the line.Some dealers won't do this, too much time and trouble, but mine did.
