only a half-dozen or so degrees below 5W-30 oils; this is in the -50 to -60 degrees range for pumping ability. It would take a lot of tests to prove it's advantage over 5W-30 oils. And I don't think any of the 0W-30 oils meets the ACEA specs BMW wants in their engines but if one does, then it would probably be OK.

If I lived in wintertime Alaska, I might use it.

I'm going to stick with Valvoline 5W-40 SynPower Synthetic for 10K more miles. I get a free oil service tomorrow with this oil and still have 8 quarts of it in my garage. When that's gone, I'll probably switch to Castrol 5W-30 Syntec Synthetic as this is what BMW now has put in their quart bottles.
