The gas in a Bilstein is under pressure, but it is equally pressurized on both sides of the piston, so it contributes a zero net effect on the ride height of the car. The pressurization is not to provide a springing medium forthe car but to reduce bubble formation in the oil when the shock is cycled rapidly.
