I really hate to say it, but... (archive)

It sounds like the "kerosene-smelling concoction that he mixed up himself" simply thinned the white paint droplets and well, he basically painted your car with it. (Does the milky film look like very thin paint the same color as the droplets? Is it blotchy or even?) Now you get to remove the wax and polish that film off. Of course I have not seen the car or the problem but it seems a reasonable assumption based on your description.

Now if you had followed the advice the board gave you when you first asked this question we might be hearing how great your car looked. Sorry if my reply seems harsh but why ask if you aren't going to listen to the answers to your question. (And I had to sit out a perfectly GREAT, sunny, 80 degree, day running canyons with some others on this board because I am sick.)

I needed to have my '2000 Z3 2.5 detailed to remove thousands of minute white paint overspray droplets that I picked up at the construction site of my company's new building.

The detailer got the overspray off with some kind of kerosene-smelling concoction that he mixed up himself. The service writer whom I spoke with at Allison BMW in Mountain View told me that it sounded OK to him, especially since he knew of the detailer that I used.

However, I now sense a milky film under the new wax job. It is discernable under bright lights, such as at a service station in the dark when they have their spotlights on. It is less noticable in just sunlight.

Does this sound typical to see with a jet black finish after waxing or detailing?

The detailer told me that he had a lot of trouble working with 'this new paint type.' He has been detailing cars for about thirty years.
