Progressive springs are those where it takes more force to compress them, the more they are compressed. Normally, a spring obeys the equation F=-kx where the force needed to compress the spring is proportional to the amount it is compressed (k is the spring constant). Progessive springs are wound from tapered wire, so the spring constant rises the more they are compressed. The beauty of these is that for small irregularities, the car remains fairly softly sprung, but as the deflection increases (squat or chassis lean) they stiffen.

One of the other things to watch for is to have shocks that are matched to the new spring rate. This is why suspension kits usually consist of both springs and shocks.

I have the AC Schnitzer kit on my Z3. It is very nice; however, many here have tried the Dinan kit and like it.
