My car is at the shop so I can't look at it to check. Does the mat keep the carpet from touching the battery terminals? If carpet comes in contact with terminals the acid might eat a hole in carpet.

There is a thick rubber trunk matt underneath the carpeting. I removed mine without visual impact, and it'll probably reduce rear weight 10+ pounds... may or may not be adviseable since the car should be 50/50 weighted with it but... anything that helps performance...
